The Ty Curtis Band

June 27 at 7:30

Salem Oregon's 20-year-old Ty Curtis is a triple threat artist: singer, songwriter and guitarist. This super debut release comes only a year after the band's formation, and is as well produced as most veteran artists work. Their live performances have also brought about appearances at several high-profile festivals like the Waterfront Blues Festival and Eugene Days. Recently it was announced that Ty and the band will be the representative of the Cascade Blues Association at the 2008 Blues Foundation's Best Self-Produced CD competition.Show Has Been
Cancelled

Perhaps the late Paul Delay said it best about Ty Curtis, "He plays it like a young man should -- straight ahead and from the heart."  As a boy, Ty Curtis was known to stand in the cold outside local blues clubs just to hear his favorite musicians -- Chris Cain, Duke Robillard, Curtis Salgado, Tommy Castro. Now, just over a year into his own band's existence, The Ty Curtis Band is already packing blues-lovers in and keeping them on their feet. At 20, he has a young man's attitude, but an old man's soul. But don't think of him -- or his band-- as anything less than mature.

The band hit the Northwest blues scene in 2006. Starting with a standing room only show at Lefty's Pizzeria in Salem on Father's Day, the band continued with shows at Homer Davenport Days, Roadhouse 101 in Lincoln City, KBOO radio in Portland and return performances at Lefty's. In September they opened for Curtis Salgado and October for Paul DeLay.

In July, 2007, the band made its debut at the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland. They also performed at the Corvallis DaVinci Days, the Silverton Art Fair and the Oregon State Fair.

The Ty Curtis Band will perform at the Majestic Theatre June 27, 2008 at 7:30PM.  Tickets are $15 in advance and $17 at the door.  For more information call the box office at (541) 738-7469.

Laura Love

July 13th, 2008 - 2:30 PM

SSinger, songwriter, bassist, and published author, Laura Love has thousands of fans throughout North America and Europe. Billboard Magazine continually includes her CDs on their annual top ten lists and the first time she performed on the East Coast was at Carnegie Hall. Laura released her 10th CD in 2007 on her label, Octoroon Biography.  Titled NeGrass, it is an acoustic collection of traditional and original field hollers, Negro spirituals and folk songs, produced by Barbara Lamb and recorded in Nashville with some of the finest bluegrass musicians in North America.  NeGrass features Laura singing and playing bass with Tim O’Brien, Tracy Nelson, Barbara Lamb, Jeff Autry, Scott Vestal, Rob Ickes, Mike Bub and Alice Vestal, most of whom are Grammy and IBMA award winners. There is a personal and historic theme to NeGrass. It is something of a family history – Laura takes what she knows of her great grandparents’ lives and imagines how it might have been for them around the end of the Civil War as they were being freed from slavery and embarking into an unfamiliar world. NeGrass is a lovely, heartbreaking and joyful piece of work.  Laura is a rare recording artist - authentic and deeply rooted, with an extremely diverse appeal. Her management, publicists, record labels and the media all struggle to define Laura’s style. She is an African-American funk bassist with an astonishing voice, who is equally influenced by blues and bluegrass, jazz, folk, gospel, reggae and country. Laura sometimes refers to her style as “folk-funk”, “Afro-Celtic” or “hip-Alachian”.  Regardless of how she is described, Laura has an uncanny ability to get her audience to listen beyond their own musical boundaries. She often performs at festivals to older fans who have come to hear straight ahead bluegrass and by the end of her set, the octogenarians line up shoulder to shoulder with the pierced and tattooed and their middle aged parents to get their CDs autographed. It’s quite a sight. On stage, Laura’s voice soars into the stratosphere, she wisecracks with her side men and women, she might mention a local issue, she dances as she snaps her funky bass and no one who sees this is ever the same. Laura is whip smart, down to earth, funny and warm. It’s a winning combination, as evidenced by the long lines of fans waiting to meet her after every show as she tours throughout North America, Australia and Europe.  So, what do you call a style that incorporates folk-ish melodies, a wall of harmonies, funk bass and acoustic instrumentation with leanings toward bluegrass, jazz, country and rhythm and blues? It doesn’t matter what you call it - Laura Love survived many personal difficulties to get where she is today. She is happy and grateful to have a life that allows her to tour the world playing music and her joy is evident every minute that she’s on stage. And that joy, for Laura and her audience, is all that really matters.

Laura Love will appear at the Majestic Theatre July 13, 2008 at 2:30 PM. Tickets are $20 in advance and $22 at the door. For more information call the box office at (541) 738-7469.

Majestic Education is proud to present this popular musical as it’s summer performance intensive project.  Inspired by such rock operas as “Sweeny Todd” and “Jesus Christ Superstar,” this musical is sure to have you dancing in your seat and humming a tune or two for days after you see this fun-filled musical with a message.

The show opens on the front steps of East High, and it’s the first day after winter break . The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes find their cliques, recount their vacations, and look forward to the new year while Gabriella and Troy look at the audition sign-up for the school musical.  Will Gabriella and Troy discover both their hidden talent and love?  Will Sharpay destroy all the best plans?  All these questions and more will be answered in July!

Almost fifty talented students were chosen in March from a wide pool of local young actors to play roles in this non-stop rockin’ musical.  Student performers will spend four weeks in all-day rehearsal to prepare for this high-energy, young musical.

Find out in this spectacular play based on the story by Kenneth Grahame. The dragon, as wonderful as any who ever took the stage, is not the fearsome type. He, like the boy that befriends him, is more interested in art and poetry. The villagers, however, assume they are in grave danger and call on Sir George, the renowned dragon slayer to save them. Sir George discovers the dragon is no threat to anyone, but to keep the villagers happy, he and the dragon stage a mock battle with great showmanship. The villagers decide they can live in peace with their dragon.  The Reluctant Dragon will show September 12th and 13th at 7:30 PM and September 14th at 2:30 PM.  A Saturday morning workshop will be offered on the 13th from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM. The workshop is geared towards young children, but is great for all ages. Students will be introduced to a story, create an assigned puppet, develop a voice for the puppet, and perform a simple play narrated and directed by the puppeteer.  The workshop is $5.00 and enrollment is limited to the first twenty-five applicants.
