The Mural Project

The Drawing Board, a small local art supply store, is sponsoring a new mural, to cover an old, weathered mural in the alley between 2nd and 3rd St. on Monroe Ave. in Corvallis. (The wall is outside the home office of the Corvallis Environmental Center and is owned by Squirrel’s Tavern.)

At the Fundraiser Art Show on February 21, an artist’s rendering of the design for the new mural will be presented. Poster copies of the design will be given out for donations. There will also be original artwork by Ben Jay for sale, proceeds benefiting the Mural Project.

The Artist: Ben Jay

The Drawing Board has commissioned Corvallis native Ben Jay to paint the new mural. Ben’s specialty: large-scale portraits and landscapes, painting free-hand with aerosol acrylic (spraypaint). Ben Jay’s work has been featured at The Majestic Theatre and was part of the set for last November’s production of RENT.

The Process: A Community Effort

The Mural Project is funded in part by a public arts grant from the Benton County Cultural Coalition, awarded in partnership with the Corvallis Arts Center. Paint and supplies will be provided by The Drawing Board.

The Mural Project still needs to raise about $500, from members of the community who want to see a bold new mural go up in Downtown.
