Classes:

-PLAY-MAKING: Super Heroes & Fairy Tales
ages 6-9
3:30pm-4:30pm
*Must have a minimum of 6 participants for class to take.

The world of fairy tales and/ or Super heroes comes to life in this exciting and creative class. Bring your imagination and be ready to become a dragon, princess, wonder woman, troll, batman or even a magical elf. We will be breaking down what story structure is (beginning, middle, and end), creating new subplots, and transporting the class to worlds beyond.

The final stage of the class is to have students create their own character and world to interact within.  There is a culmination of performance and show- and- tell as each student shares with family and friends their character in action.

-Dramatic Play & Theater Games
ages 10-13
4:30-5:30pm
*Must have a minimum of 6 participants for class to take.

This is a class for beginning or advanced performers.  Explore the world around you and the characters in it through theater! Through physical, vocal, and theatrical games students act- out, exaggerate, goof, improvise, and test their imagination.   Students use their voice, body, and mind to pursue objectives, overcome obstacles, find tactics, create characters and scenes, and work with partners and in teams.

-Ensemble Theater & Original Works
ages 14-18
5:30-6:30pm
*Must have a minimum of 6 participants for class to take.

This is a performing, writing, and ensemble generating class. The class is part acting and movement exercises to get the brain and body open and responding imaginatively, and part writing to explore the ideas and questions of young people today. Students will be writing, revising, and performing scenes and monologues that they have created around subjects that are important to them.

This class promotes literacy, creativity, problem solving, academic skills, motivation, and self-empowerment for students with varying backgrounds and abilities. Students invest in their own stories, get excited about the playwrighting process and assume ownership of their writing. When students write plays about their lives, they are given a new language to express themselves, and a dialogue with their peers.

¡Bocón!, a fable filled with humor and mysticism and song, tells the story of twelve-year-old Miguel who flees a repressive military regime in Central America for Los Angeles. A natural storyteller and irrepressible “big mouth” or bocón, Miguel loses his voice when his parents are taken and begins a metaphorical journey north to the City of Angels. Along the way he meets up with an unusual traveling companion, La Llorona, the legendary “Weeping Woman” of Mexican and Central American mythology. Through their magical friendship, Miguel finds his voice and the courage to cross the border to a new life. Miguel’s story is relevant to immigrant children from all parts of the world … and to any child who is learning the many meanings of finding one’s own “voice.”
