SHOW SYNOPSIS

A down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history, thereby bilking their backers (all "little old ladies") out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive "Springtime for Hitler"), hiring a director, raising the money and finally going to prison for their misdeeds is a lesson in broad comic construction. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant, emotional journey of two very different men who become friends.

FROM THE DIRECTORS: Riley Lucas and Ashleigh Barbeau

If you’ve ever thought, “You know what musical theatre needs? More Nazis,” congratulations, you’ve come to the right place. Mel Brooks’ “The Producers” is unapologetically absurd, wildly inappropriate, and deeply necessary. Let’s be honest: doing a musical that features singing Nazis in this day and age is a bold move, but if Mel Brooks taught us anything, it’s this: the best way to take down a fascist is with jazz hands and rhinestones.

“The Producers” is many things: a love letter to Broadway, a masterclass in bad taste, and a reminder that comedy is a weapon. By turning history’s most hateful villains into ridiculous song-and-dance punchlines, we expose their weakness: they can’t survive being laughed at. We want to expose the ridiculousness behind the hatred, the fear behind the uniform, and the total lack of rhythm behind the goose step.

In a world where extremism is back on the rise, “The Producers” feels more relevant than ever. At a time when fascist rhetoric is once again finding a foothold in our culture, laughing at it loudly is a radical act. This show is about more than showbiz scams and nymphomaniac grannies (even though they’re objectively hilarious) – it’s about unity against fascism through laughter. It’s about the kind of comedy that makes you laugh so hard you accidentally learn something. And most of all, it’s about reminding ourselves that fascists hate being laughed at, and that’s a damn good reason to do it.

With that said, we want to emphasize our commitment to gender and racial diversity in our casting and welcome performers of all gender identities and expressions. We enthusiastically encourage gender-nonconforming, nonbinary, and trans performers to audition for any roles that resonate with them. All casting will prioritize talent, authenticity, and storytelling.

So join us. Let’s sing, dance, and mock Nazis... tastefully.

Kind of.

– Riley Lucas and Ashleigh Barbeau
