The Magic Barrel: A Reading to Fight Hunger
Eight brilliant Oregon writers will share their best at The Magic Barrel: A Reading to Fight Hunger, Friday, October 16, 7 pm at the Majestic Theater, 115 SW 2nd St., in Corvallis.
Tickets are $12 in advance at https://www.magicbarrel.org/ ($15 at the door).
The fast-paced evening will feature offerings by poets Kelli Russell Agodon, Eric Dickey and Lex Runciman; fiction writers John Larison, Kate Alice Marshall and Rosiee Thor; and creative nonfiction writers Michael Copperman and Lauren Kessler, with emcee Madeline McDonnell and live music by Us & Them.
Grass Roots Books will be on hand to sell the writers’ books.
All proceeds from the evening will go to Stone Soup Corvallis, a thriving non-profit which serves hot meals to the hungry at various locations in Corvallis seven days a week.
According to the Oregon Food Bank, “Hunger in Oregon has reached record levels. 1 in 7 people and 1 in 6 kids don’t have enough to eat.”
Now in its 33rd year, the Magic Barrel brings live literature and music to the task of helping the hungry in the Mid-Willamette Valley.
The primary sponsor is Oregon State University Center for the Humanities with additional support from The Spring Creek Project.
