MTYP SUMMER INTENSIVE AUDITIONS: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

Updated: 5 days ago

For older youth ages 12-18, our auditions-only Shakespeare day camp is a great experience. Teens help choose the concept and setting of the production, learn classical theatre techniques and history, and contribute to costumes, sets, and makeup designs, all while staging a 90-minute cut of one of Shakespeare’s famous plays. They’ll also experience a smattering of basic stage combat, early modern stagecraft, and the ever-popular Blood Day! The camp culminates in a pair of weekend performances on our mainstage.

Please note: These auditions are for a summer day camp rather than a community theatre production. All participants who are cast will have to register for the camp, which costs $450 for in-city residents and $550 for out-of-city residents. You can find more information about registration here: http://apm.activecommunities.com/corvparksandrecreation/Activity_Search/46957

Scholarships are available! Click here to learn more.

ABOUT THE CAMP

Auditions: Saturday, April 20th from 1:00-4:00 pm

Camp Dates: Monday through Friday, August 5 - 24th from 12:00 - 4:30pm

Performances: Friday and Saturday, August 23-24th at 7:00 pm

ABOUT THE SHOW

Lovers, fairies, and clowns inhabit this, the most magical of Shakespeare’s comedies. With plenty of opportunities for wacky hijinks, fantastical makeup and costumes, and fun special effects, this play is always a big hit with actors and audiences alike.

ABOUT THE AUDITIONS

No preparation is necessary for this year’s workshop-style audition. Prospective young

actors can show up ready to move and have fun! Auditions will consist of warm-ups, theatre games, and cold readings. Please wear comfortable clothes and close-toed shoes to the audition.

Video auditions are available as an opinion. Email director Rachel Kohler at rachel.kohler@corvallisoregon.gov for more information.

AVAILABLE ROLES

Actors of any gender can play any role; pronouns can optionally be adjusted to suit actor preferences.

The Duke of Athens, engaged to Hippolyta. Very smart, but at times a bit dense.

Hippolyta

Ruler of the Amazons, engaged to Theseus. Ready to throw down whenever.

Hermia’s parent. A total stick in the mud. May be doubled with a fairy role.

Hermia

Child of Egeus, in love with Lysander. Sweet as sugar until you get on their bad side.

Lysander

In love with Hermia. A real romantic.

Demetrius

Suitor to Hermia. A bit of a player.

In love with Demetrius. Has all the energy and anxiety of a Pomeranian.

Philostrate

Servant to Theseus, in charge of entertainment. May be doubled with Puck.

THE COMMUNITY THEATRE ACTORS

Peter Quince

A carpenter and an overly enthusiastic community theatre director.

Nick Bottom

A weaver and the actor at auditions who will not shut up about every role they’ve ever played.

Francis Flute

A bellows-mender who’s never acted before but wants to try. May be doubled with Cobweb.

Tom Snout

A general purpose repair person who loves to act while being cheerfully awful at it. May be doubled with Moth.

A tailor who hates being onstage but does it anyway because their friends won’t stop bugging them about it. May be doubled with Mustardseed.

THE FAIRIES

King of the Fairies. A total control freak.

Titania

Queen of the Fairies. Always gets their way one way or another.

Puck
