The Majestic Theatre (a division of the City of Corvallis Parks and Recreation department) is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion and to creating a safe place for actors of all backgrounds to explore their craft. The Majestic Theatre staff and volunteers do not discriminate on the basis of age, national origin, race, gender, ethnic background, ability, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or any protected class.
Auditions will be held in person at The Majestic Theatre. This audition is for our teen summer theatre camp, a summer acting intensive designed for young actors ages 12-18. Registration in this program will be by audition only for the 14 available roles. Majestic Staff will register students once they have been cast; understudies will be placed on a waiting list in the event that a spot becomes available.
ABOUT THE SHOW
William Shakespeare’s wackiest farce stars two pairs of identical twins, each with the same name. After nearly three decades of separation, the pairs stumble into the same town by coincidence, and everyone spends a very baffling day confusing each twin for the other and vice versa. This hilarious slapstick comedy of mistaken identities, reunited families, and new-discovered love is one of Shakespeare’s most approachable and performable plays, perfect for young actors to stretch themselves to new heights.
Our teen Shakespeare summer camp, Shakespeare in the Stark, is one of the theatre’s favorite pandemic innovations. The constant refrain of the program participants was always: “When are we going to do a whole play?” (and the constant refrain of the parents was always: “When are you going to bring my child out of the 100+ degree heat?”) And the answer to both questions is…2023! We’re excited to have a chance to really dig into a Shakespeare play with a passionate group of talented young actors.
PREPARATION NOTES
Prospective campers do NOT need to prepare a monologue or piece; the audition will consist of warm-ups, theatre games, and cold readings from the script. Wear comfortable clothes and be ready to move.
CHARACTERS
All characters do not have a specific race or ethnic background; we're excited to see a diverse pool of actors audition for all roles. Actors of any gender can play any roles, and since it’s Shakespeare, we’re free to make any role into any gender and change the pronouns to fit.
